The new Security+ SY0-701 is coming

As we are writing this CompTIA is working hard at updating the current Security+ SY0-601 to the new Security+ SY0-701 that is coming a bit later this year. Security+ has been one of CompTIA’s most successful certification tracks. In part because cybersecurity has become such a mission-critical part of IT but also because it’s a well-designed and positioned exam. However, it remains a tricky exam as it covers a very wide range of topics (Exam Objectives coming soon) and contains several question formats including the dreaded Performance Based Questions (PBQ).

Is the new Security+ SY0-701 for you?

Well, of course, it depends. For some of you, it actually can be a must. For instance, if you are working for the DoD or a defense subcontractor (like Lockheed or Martin Marietta among others) then you may be required to take the new Security+ SY0-701 as you may be required to update your credential (from Security+ SY0-601) just to stay employed. Other than very specific cases like these, there are other reasons too like possibly improving the career prospects of anyone working in cybersecurity but having no certification. For those, the new Security+ SY0-701 can be maybe the best stepping stone into cybersecurity certification. Generally speaking, anyone working in cybersecurity stands to benefit from this certification as it covers a very wide range of cybersecurity concepts. Security+ also enjoys quite high credibility and standing among cybersecurity credentials. Finally, many Security+ certified individuals with just a few years of experience in the field command six-figure incomes and beyond.

The new Security+ SY0-701 is important because cybersecurity is critical. So why is it so important? Below are a few of the reasons.

Protecting sensitive information

Cybersecurity measures help protect sensitive information such as personal data, financial information, and intellectual property from theft, damage, or unauthorized access. Cybercriminals can use this information for fraud, identity theft, or other malicious purposes.

Ensuring business continuity

Cyberattacks can disrupt business operations, cause downtime, and lead to financial losses. Cybersecurity measures help ensure business continuity by preventing or minimizing the impact of cyberattacks.

Maintaining trust and reputation

Customers, clients, and partners expect organizations to protect their information and data. A cybersecurity breach can damage an organization’s reputation and erode trust, leading to loss of business and revenue.

Compliance with regulations

Many industries and countries have regulations and laws that require organizations to protect sensitive data and information. Compliance with these regulations requires effective cybersecurity measures.

Preventing cybercrime

Cybercrime is a growing threat that can cause significant damage to individuals and organizations. Cybersecurity measures can help prevent cybercrime by detecting and preventing cyberattacks before they occur.

In summary, cybersecurity is important because it protects sensitive information, ensures business continuity, maintains trust and reputation, ensures compliance with regulations, and helps prevent cybercrime.

Cybersecurity has grown very steadily over the years and still is and the fundamental underlying factor has been how much computing has migrated online. Security becomes trickier whenever more people are accessing information online on top of which we do it from multiple devices with a variety of operating systems! No wonder cybersecurity has been growing exponentially. That is also why the new Security+ SY0-701 is so relevant. It certifies knowledge and skills in a field that undoubtedly is critical to the smooth operation of information technology writ large.
